Side Entering Mixer

What are Side Entering Mixers?

Side entering mixers — also called side-entry or side-entry agitators — are industrial mixing devices designed to be mounted through the sidewall of a tank or vessel, rather than from the top.  This lateral installation makes side entering mixers especially suitable for large-volume, deep, or narrow tanks where top-entry agitators are impractical or inefficient.

Why Choose Side Entering Mixers?

  • Efficient Mixing in Large Tanks: By forcing fluid flow horizontally and creating circulation patterns, side entering mixers ensure uniform blending and prevent settling of solids or stratification — maintaining homogeneity throughout the tank.
  • Cost-Effective and Convenient Installation: Since these mixers mount from the side, there’s often no need for internal baffles, special tank redesigns, or long vertical shafts — which reduces structural and installation costs.
  • Maintenance & Flexibility: Many side-entry mixers feature mechanical seals or stuffing-box arrangements with a shut-off device, which allows maintenance or seal replacement without draining the tank.
  • Adaptable to Many Industries: Suitable for chemical processing, wastewater treatment, oil & gas, edible-oil storage, general blending, fermentation, and more.

Applications & Typical Uses

  • Liquid blending and homogenization — blending different liquids, additives, or maintaining consistency over time.
  • Solids suspension / sludge control — keeping solids, sludge, or sediment in suspension (e.g. preventing bottom sludge in crude oil tanks) rather than allowing settling.
  • Storage tank agitation — circulating contents for temperature uniformity or compositional consistency in storage tanks (oil, chemicals, wastewater, etc.)
  • Chemical processing, blending & reactions — enabling efficient mixing, mass transfer, and chemical homogeneity in reactors or process vessels.
