Morehouse Cowles Sunset – DisperseTech Offers Compatible Impeller Blades
As of October 1, 2025, NuSil, a brand of Avantor, announced the decision to sunset Morehouse Cowles, a respected name in the mixing and dispersion equipment industry. According to the statement posted on the Morehouse Cowles website:
“Effective immediately, we are no longer accepting new equipment orders. We remain committed to supporting you during this transition and are grateful to our customers, independent representatives, and suppliers who supported us throughout our journey.”
At DisperseTech, we recognize the tremendous contribution Morehouse Cowles has made to the mixing and dispersion industry. Many of our customers have relied on their dependable equipment and precision impellers for decades. With this transition, DisperseTech is pleased to offer a full range of compatible dispersion blades and replacement impellers that perform comparably to the original Morehouse Cowles designs.
Our blades are engineered for the same precision, balance, and material integrity customers have come to expect. Below is an overview of the four classic Morehouse Cowles impeller designs that we continue to support with equivalent styles and custom fabrication.
Applications: Ultimate dispersion, mixing, dissolving, emulsifying, and de-agglomerating.
The Cowles Hi-Shear impeller is the industry standard for both low- and high-viscosity materials. Its blade profile delivers the ideal combination of pumping efficiency and high shear, making it effective for dispersing pigments, wetting powders, and emulsifying liquids.
- Materials: 304 stainless steel standard; also available in 316 stainless or tungsten carbide coating.
- Available Sizes: 2" to 40" diameter.
Applications: Abrasive or metal-sensitive dispersions such as water-based coatings and titanium dioxide slurries.
The Poly-Peller is molded from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), a non-conductive material that eliminates spark risk and resists most solvents. This blade is an ideal choice where product purity is critical or metal contact must be avoided.
- Lasts up to ten times longer than stainless impellers.
- Symmetrical design allows reversing for double service life.
- Rated for continuous operation up to 145°F (63°C).
- Available Sizes: 2" to 40" diameter.
Applications: Medium-shear mixing, blending, and circulation.
Hi-Vane impellers bridge the gap between low-speed propellers and high-speed dispersers. Their radial flow and high-volume pumping promote uniform blending while maintaining lower shear to minimize heat buildup during processing.
- Materials: Standard 304 stainless steel, with optional coatings or alternative alloys available.
- Available Sizes: 2" to 40" diameter.
Applications: Rapid dispersion of fibrous or solid materials such as rubber or cellulose.
The Pick impeller alternates high-shear vanes with sharp horizontal cutting blades, achieving quick breakdown and uniform mixing of tough or fibrous ingredients.
- Materials: 304 stainless steel standard, with optional metals and coatings.
- Available Sizes: 2" to 32" diameter.
Supporting Your Transition
DisperseTech remains committed to supporting customers who have relied on Morehouse Cowles equipment. Whether you need replacement impellers, custom fabrication, or assistance selecting the best blade for your process, our team can help specify the right match.
We can supply standard and custom impeller sizes, hub styles, and coatings to meet your exact processing requirements.
